Master board game designer Reiner Knizia has commented that two topics are impossible to make into good games, sports and economics. Despite what Knizia says, there are lots of sports games available — of varying quality, that's for sure. However, there are many good sports games that manage to portray some part of sports in an interesting fashion, for example there are many good sports management games. Few board games can offer the speed and excitement of sports, but if the game tries to do something else, it just might work!
