Heroclix
HeroClix is a collectible miniature game (CMG) produced by WizKids. Players construct teams of heroes and villains and fight turn-based battles on map grids. Original HeroClix characters were from Marvel comics, but the game has expanded to cover DC Comics and other independent comics. According to Wikipedia, as of December 2007 there are approximately 3,000 different HeroClix figures. It goes without saying the game is highly collectible, but it is also fun to play.
The figures have certain characteristics, which are printed in the base of the figure. When a figure takes damage, it's marked on the base by turning the base certain number of "clicks", hence the name. Damage usually weakens a character, though some (like Hulk) are made stronger by getting wounded.
The characters have different rarity levels. Some are commonly available, but others are rare or super rare. Hunting in eBay is a good way to find some of the rarer figures. Good luck!
