Designer board games is a common term for modern board games. The name comes from the fact that the designer of the game gets credit for his or her work; often the designer is credited on the top of the box. In many older board games the designer is strictly anonymous.

These games are also called German board games, because many of them come originally from Germany. The most important thing is, however, the superior quality of these games.
